MPC Core Values

CORE VALUES are living beliefs.  They help you make daily decisions that are consistent with your beliefs.  You work to discover them because they help you sort out what's really important, what you stand for.  They impart a clear sense of your principles and priorities; they are a basis on which you can clearly discern your mission.  The following values, listed in their ranking order, help to define the characteristics of the Mendocino Presbyterian Church.

1. SPIRITUAL GROWTH in terms of our being drawn ever nearer to God in continuing relationship and God working through us to draw others into initial relationship with God in and through Jesus Christ.

2. FORGIVENESS as a lifestyle by which we give up our "right" to criticize, complain and demand justice for ourselves; and an attitude by which we allow God to complete in our experience the separation from guilt already dealt with at the cross.

3. INTEGRITY as a Christian walk characterized by making choices based on applying the word of God, listening to the perspective of the people of God, and by personal confirmation from the Spirit of God.

4. FRIENDSHIP as a commitment to trust that the people that come into our lives are God's intended recipients of our time, energy, good-will and prayer - first to the household of faith and then to all.

5. FAMILY a deliberate choice to regard everyone even, or perhaps especially, the more difficult persons, as members or prospective members of God's family who are entitled to shared nurturing from us as children of God,

6. TOLERANCE as acknowledgement that we don't have all the answers; that we are not completely sure of some of the answers we offer; but we are certain of God's love relationship and kind intent towards us as modeled, proclaimed and made communicable through us by Jesus' life through death, resurrection and indwelling spirit.
