In 1977 jazz pianist, John Gilmore arrived on the Mendocino Coast, where he regularly performs in concerts, festivals, clubs, and restaurants. He often works with Bay Area musicians in venues from San Francisco to Eureka. John has also scored industrial videos for a Sonoma County producer and has created and managed web sites. He has been the music teacher in a local elementary school since 1994. In 2005 he released a solo piano CD.
John studied jazz and European music while earning a degree in English from Indiana University. He pursued graduate studies in English and education at the University of Chicago amidst stints as social worker, teacher, and cab driver. In the Windy City he also performed with pop and jazz musicians ranging from Tennessee Ernie Ford to Anthony Braxton in settings from country fairs to city clubs.
